I am pleased that
Dr. Jagan was a part of my life - I remember as a kid going to his political rallies
on water street, or at the Town Hall in New Amsterdam. I remember Dr. Jagan signing
autographgs for myself and my brother in Toronto in 1992 and asking us to come
back home to assist with the election and work there after he won the election.
I remember Dr. Jagan's last visit to Canada not so long ago and the controversy
it generated back home. Dr. Jagan was a fighter - it is people like him that I
look to to draw strenght and inspiration. He endured to the end. As I told my
neighbour he fought for Guyana, made personal sacrifices for Guyana and while
his death is untimely the conolation is he will be buried as a hero wilth the
full honors that is accorded a President, World Leader and Statesman. I wish his
family, friends and close colleagues the best during this sad period, and Dr.
Jagan has left a legacy that will continue forever.

off worn-out clothes and puts on new ones, so also the Self (Soul) casts off worn-out

It's traditional
to weep or grieve when our loved ones have passed, For the emptiness they leave
behind we know will always last. But in our grief we should reflect, on the life
that they have lived The laughter, joy and happiness, and all the love they used
to give. For it's not by the length of one's life, but the genuine quality That
God selects them to dwell with him throughout eternity.

Dear Mrs. Janet
Jagan, Joey, Nadira, the brothers and sisters of President Jagan, please accept
our deepest sympathy on the death of Guyana's greatest son, His Excellency Dr.
Cheddi Jagan, father of the Guyanese nation. Like so many other people around
the world, we also feel a deep sense of personal loss and tremendous grief. Dr.
Jagan, an ordinary man with extraordinary achievements for his people was indeed
a charismatic leader, as rear as Mahatma Gandhi, Subas Chandra Bose and Nelson
Mandela. He was not afraid to stand up to the might of England's Winston Churchill's
and United States John F. Kennedy's imperialism. As Guyana mourns the passing
of this great freedom fighter, let us ensure that the authorities enhsrine his
memory in the most idealistic and glorified manner. A permanent memorial symbol
must be displayed in an appropriate spot in Guyana as a lasting tribute to the
Father of the Guyanese nation. Historians must now document Dr. Jagan's legacy.
