There are leaders
that are loved by their constituents, but not respected by them and there are
leaders who are respected by their constituents, but not loved by them. President
Cheddi B. Jagan was one of those rare leaders to walk this Earth, who was both
loved and respected by his people. Through his two visits to Houston over the
last few years and my trips to Guyana, I have had, not only the honor, but also,
the pleasure of coming into contact President Jagan and dealing with him on a
business and personal level. The last time he was in Houston, he visited our law
firm where he conducted business meetings and overwhelmed our staff with his charasmatic
charm. He was a humble man of unparalleled integrity, whose sincere, lifetime
commitment and restless drive for the betterment of the Guyanese people, quickly
wins one's support for his selfless cause. To Mrs. Janet Jagan, Joey, Nadira and
the Jagan grandchildren, we grieve with you, for our lives have also been touched
by this GRAND, golden man. On behalf of myself, my brother and law partner, Bashist,
our families and everyone at THE SHARMA LAW FIRM, P.C., please accept our most
heart-felt condolence. Jai Sharma, Honorary Trade Representative Republic of Guyana. Jai Sharma, THE SHARMA LAW FIRM, P.C. <Lawyers@flash.net>

He led by example and demonstrated that we can preserve our individual identities
(racial, sexual, religious, ideological, etc.) without ripping apart the fabric
of our common humanity. The words of George Bernard Shaw, "I am of the opinion
that my life belongs to the whole community as long as I live", defined his life.

My sympathy also go to the Guyanese people (in Guyana and elsewhere). Guyana,

On behalf of the
entire Singh family in the Bronx I would like to send you our deepest sympathy.
My family immigrated from Guyana in the early 80's, so I am not familiar with
Dr. Jagans recent effect on the country. The five years I spent in Guyana was
under Bernam rule and I remember my parents talking of how bad things were. On
a recent visit to Guyana in February of 1996 I experienced Dr. Jagans positive
changes first hand. The picture I had in my head of Guyana was of a country in
total confusion. But after my trip I saw a Guyana which I did not want to leave.
I felt so comfortable. This was not the Guyana I had heard of . I felt this was
a result of President Jagans rule. It was not until his death that I found out
what a truly great man Dr. Jagan was. I am proud to call myself Guyanese because
of Dr. Jagan who's positive works in Guyana has made it the great nation it is
today. I only hope that this positive progression will continue to take place
in honor of Dr. Cheddi Bharat Jagan. Once again I would like to extend my deepest
sympathy! Love always Preya Singh Preya Singh <GTrani@aol.com>

To Mrs. Jagan and
her family and all relatives our sincerest condolences on the death of President
Cheddi B. Jagan. From Zamal's Software Company & Zamal's Dry Goods. Some Thoughts:
What a MAN! So much to learn from such a personality. He will be missed, sorely
missed. His vision, his ideals, his commitment. His honesty & hard work (things
that have lost their value in today's ratrace world); may we relearn these so
our lives can be as fruitful as his. Dr. Jagan: May your death result in a birth
of unity. A rebirth of commitment to development with a human face. Freedom is
a practical necessity. You gave it to us. May we cherish it dearly. May we defend
it and give our lives for it if the necessity ever arises. As you have done. **********You
were lied to; lied about; but now you lie in STATE. What a TRIBUTE!!! **********You
were cussed; now you're being dis-cussed (in glowing terms even by your enemies)
I came back to this beautiful country of ours because you were where you belonged.
You died where you belonged. We will miss you, God knows how we will miss you,

I send my deepest
condolences to the family of Dr. Cheddi Jagan. His whole life was like the forming
of an egg. Through the years the egg would get hard, and tough to face the outside
world, for any troubles yet to come. And all through that hard work the egg would
be the strongest of the strong. Then all of the sudden the egg would, crack. The
struggle is over. But it payed off. Dr. Jagan tried hard and accomplished all
his goals wether big or small, hard or easy, he would always succeed with a smile
on his face. Dr. Cheddi Jagan, you were the only man who will ever lead Guyana
to her happiness and you did. We thank you for all that you have done. Although
I am not a Guyanese, I can feel the emotions around me. I was to meet Dr. Jagan
on my recent trip to Guyana. But he was out of town. It was one of the gretest
oppurtunities I missed and will always look back and think that I cound have shook
hands with one of the greatest man in the world. Long Live Dr. Cheddi Jagan.

Cheddi Bharat
Jagan Ah! pity! pity! Alas, dear Cheddi, the end has come. Thy aoul must journey
to eternity for thy work is done. Though tired and aweary, thine heart lies in
limbo The time has come to say good-bye my hero. Mahatma! beest thou? A better
place for Guyanese was thy life-long goal, Though blood, sweat and tears greeted
you everywhere, Despite oppressors, traitors and enemies, you gallantly fought
on. A Bharat, you have made for its people. Humility, broad-mindedness and dedication
were thy guiding light. Mahatma, thou art. Your soul is enshrined in Paradise.
God's blessings and good-bye my dear leader. Rewti Raman Rewti Raman <raman@planet.eon.net>

Jagan, our very own Prometheus - you stole the fire and lit our way - but you
were never bound. You were able to scale Mount Olympus over and over again and
for that we are grateful. The fire is lit and we will keep it burning with the
fan of hope you left behind. Dr. Jagan, I am lucky to have met you, not once,
not twice, but more and listened to you many more times before from my extreme
youth in Enmore to the age of reason in Canada (Ottawa). I thank you for all you
have given to Enmore, Guyana and to the rest of the world. Krishna Dei Rutherford. Krishna Dei Rutherford <chandrab@astral.magic.ca>
