of Condolence for the Sawh Family
May 15th. 2006
Introduction
Saturday, April 22nd. 2006, most of us awoke to what we expected to be a normal Saturday in our lives. Most of us will begin our day with that cup of tea or coffee, a nice breakfast and then sit down to read the papers or watch some TV.
For me, my Saturday morning always begin the same way, turn on my computer to check my emails and then check the message board here at GNI to see if anything needed my attention, all of this even before my first cup of coffee.
The first thing that catches my eye on the Social Forum that morning, is a topic that reads "tragedy in Guyana" I opened it, posting time was April 22, 2006 04:03 AM by Chameli, a member of the forum.
I scanned the posts and replies and I am startled, 4 replies down it reads "Minister of Agricultue Sat Sawh and his family was executed last nite." posted by Chief another member of the forum. I thought this can't be right, the guys must be pulling a prank, but I started searching desperately through the internet for news. Slowly the news came trickling in, as others posted what they found on the net also.
Needless to say, I lost all desire to have my breakfast, for the next few hours I sat at my computer searching and reading, looking for more and more information.
Others shared their opinions, this was no robbery but the intent to assassinate the minister and his family.
Later, I came up with the idea of a condolence forum, where people can post their messages of condolence.
Below
are the messages that I have copied and pasted here to be read.
Some of these messages are very touching - Amral
I have known this family since my childhood days. The children and I grew up together in Mahaicony, and attended the same Secondary School. They were, and still are, one of the simplest and humblest families I have ever known.
It was extremely shocking, and heart wrenching, to hear of the gruesome death of three members of this loving family. Although I am far away from all of them, I wish to let them know that I am there with them in mind and spirit. May god be with them, and guide them thorugh this time of their sadness and grief.
I would also like to extend my sympathy to the family and friends of the security guard that lost his life in this horrible incident.
May all of their souls rest in peace.
Urmilla Singh, Formerly of Mortice, Mahaicony.
Go placidly
amid the noise and the haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others,
even to the dull and ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and
aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter,
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements
as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself.
Especially do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love;
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment,
it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly
the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.
You are a child
of the universe
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be
at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be.
And whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul.
With all its
sham, drudgery and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.
Our Condolences
go out to OP and his family.
May God grant eternal rest to Sat Raj and Julie.
And to OP and the rest of the family may the peace of God be always with you.You
will be in our prayers.

Good bye my dear
friends. God only takes the best. Know these souls will be re-united with
their parents and big brother "Hardatt". Our families have know each other
since the "black friday" rioting in Guyana,(1962) when we looked out for each
other in Kingston, Georgetown. Rest in Peace.
To Sat's wife,
Kids, Julie's family and Raj's family, know that God will give you the strength,
guidance and wisdom to deal with this tragedy and please, dear friends, 'leave
revenge to God', the evil people who did this heneous crime, may or may not
come to justice in the life, but rest assure, they will in then next life.
They will "burn in hell". God Bless.

So
tragic and scary to hear the details of what happened to Satyadeo Sawh and
the others who perished in the hands of these gunmen!!!!
I am glad I have a way of expressing condolences to Sawh's family. Sat sawh
was a true Minister and wonderful person to the community of Toronto, and
our family was sadden by the news of this wonderful person who give his time
doing what he truly loved. I have such respect the family, Please let his

our
sympathy to the Sawhs family, relatives and friends for their loss .
On behalf of the Guyanese community living in Waterbury Ct. we extend with
regret the loss of all the innocent lives were were taken away by those criminals
involved.I do hope they capture all,in this brutal slaying.Severe punishment
should be given and then the death penalty as judgement for these criminals
. They have no respect for human lives. God made us all to live in this world
with peace ,love and harmony.
It
is sickening to hear of all these brutal crimes that is happening in Guyana,
why ?. Unite and live people , life is beautiful.Put an end to all the hate
and anger. United, all of Guyana can stand ! Killing is not the answer to
democracy, people.Going forward like this Guyana can never be stable. End racial
politics , racial hate and Guyana can be a heaven to live in future. We pray
for the lost souls, and may peace be unto them.

In coming to know of the tragic death of Minister Sash Sawh and his family, I am deeply saddened at the loss of such a great man and his supportive family members.
Guyana has lost a great son.
The assasination of Guyana's beloved Minsiter of Agriculture was carefully planned and executed. Clearly this is a politically motivated crime which deserves the highest investigative efforts to find and persecute the criminals.
This attack on a democratically elected government is an outrage.
We cannot stand by and let this gruesome massacre to go unsolved.
I truly hope the Canadian Government will make every effort to assist the Guyana Police Force and Government to find these criminals and expose all those behind this.
Enough is enough. Too many people continue to be murdered and yet, these crimes go unsolved.
My warm condolences to the Sawh family. Sash Sawh dedicated his youth and all his life to the restoration of democracy in Guyana. He was a caring man, actively engaging people in his ideals for a better Guyana. He had so much energy; devoted so much time in his active leadership role in the Toronto ACG; always there to talk to people about the homes they have left in Guyana; about the situation in Guyana throughout the 70s and 80s. His family members are always there to support him in his efforts.
How sad to learn of the gruesome crime against him and his family.

God
choses the best but it should not be by the hands of murderers. May all those
who died in the gruesome murder have a resting place and may God chastise
those who commit the murder.

I pray that the killers will be detained and made to answer for this terrible
crime that they have committed. All my family members from England to the
US are praying for our dear Country- Guyana.
We are hopeful
that the atrocities that we are now witnessing occurring in our homeland will
end and that someday soon we can all live in the harmony that God created
us for. May God Bless the Mrs.Sawh and family and give them all strength at
this sad time to carry on in faith.
